چکیده

This paper investigates an approach to designing and building adaptive agents. The main contribution is the use of a symbolic machine learning system for approximating the policy and Q functions that are at the heart of the agent. Under the assumption that sufficient knowledge of the application domain is available, it is shown how this knowledge can be provided to the agent in the form of symbolic hypothesis languages for the policy and Q functions, and the advantages of such an approach. A series of experiments concerning the performance of an agent employing this architecture in the blocks world domain is presented and some general conclusions drawn.

An Online Q-learning Based Multi-Agent LFC for a Multi-Area Multi-Source Power System Including Distributed Energy Resources

This paper presents an online two-stage Q-learning based multi-agent (MA) controller for load frequency control (LFC) in an interconnected multi-area multi-source power system integrated with distributed energy resources (DERs). The proposed control strategy consists of two stages. The first stage is employed a PID controller which its parameters are designed using sine cosine optimization (SCO...

Top-Down and Bottom-Up Interactions between Low-Level Reactive Control and Symbolic Rule Learning in Embodied Agents

Mammals bootstrap their cognitive structures through embodied interaction with the world. This raises the question: how the reactive control of initial behavior is recurrently coupled to the high-level symbolic representations they give rise to? We investigate this question in the framework of the "Distributed Adaptive Control" (DAC) cognitive architecture, where we study top-down and bottomup ...

Combining Reinforcement Learning with Symbolic Planning

One of the major difficulties in applying Q-learning to realworld domains is the sharp increase in the number of learning steps required to converge towards an optimal policy as the size of the state space is increased. In this paper we propose a method, PLANQ-learning, that couples a Q-learner with a STRIPS planner. The planner shapes the reward function, and thus guides the Q-learner quickly ...

A Case Study in Integrating Probabilistic Decision Making and Learning in a Symbolic Cognitive Architecture: Soar Plays Dice

One challenge for cognitive architectures is to effectively use different forms of knowledge and learning. We present a case study of Soar agents that play a multiplayer dice game, in which probabilistic reasoning and heuristic symbolic knowledge appear to play a central role. We develop and evaluate a collection of agents that use different combinations of probabilistic decision making, heuris...

Modular Preference Moore Machines in News Mining Agents

This paper focuses on Hybrid Symbolic Neural Architectures that support the task of classifying textual information in learning agents. We give an outline of these symbolic and neural preference Moore machines. Furthermore, we demonstrate how they can be used in the context of information mining and news classification. Using the Reuters newswire text data, we demonstrate how hybrid symbolic an...
